Afla Check™ & DON Check™ kits are qualitative strip tests for detecting total aflatoxins and DON in food-related samples, providing fast, accurate, on-the-spot "Yes/No" results or, with the Vertu reader, semi-quantitative values.
They are easy to use in the field or lab, provide reliable results in as little as 3 minutes, and don't require expensive equipment. They are an ideal first step for detecting toxin contamination.

VICAM’s AflaCheck™ is a qualitative one-step test kit for the detection of aflatoxins, a Group 1 human carcinogen.
Aflatoxin levels in food and grain are subject to strict regulations worldwide; the EU has established regulations for aflatoxin in groundnuts; tree nuts, such as almonds and pistachios; dried fruits; spices; and cereals.
The U.S. FDA has instituted maximum levels for aflatoxin in many commodities, including grains and groundnuts.
How It Works
- Fast – Results in as little as 3 minutes*
- Simple – No special training or equipment required
- Accurate – Detects the presence of aflatoxin at very low levels
- Convenient – Can be performed anywhere and on a variety of sample types
- Durable – Long shelf life, no refrigeration required
- Economical – An inexpensive, first step in your testing protocol
- Versatile – Choice of two cut off procedures, 10 ppb and 20 ppb
*excludes preparation and extraction
How to Use
1. EXTRACT sample with methanol and water.
2. DILUTE the extract with water.
3. INSERT test strip into diluted extract.
4. INTERPRET results visually.
- Appearance of both test line and control line means aflatoxin level is below the cut-off.
- Appearance of the control line alone means aflatoxin level is above the cut-off.
- No visible control line means the test is invalid.

VICAM’s DONCheck™ is a rapid, qualitative one-step test kit for the detection of DON in food and animal feed.
Concerns about acute DON toxicity, as well as the risks of chronic exposure, in animals and humans continue to fuel surveillance of grain crops worldwide. Many nations have also adopted guidance or maximum allowable levels for DON to control its spread. The U.S. FDA currently recommends a limit of 1 ppm in finished wheat products for human consumption. In animal feed, advisory levels are 10 ppm for cattle/chickens, 5 ppm for swine, and 5 ppm for other animals.
